Quick answer

A port is a door on a server. If SSH on port 22 or MySQL on port 3306 is not opening, this tool tells you whether the port is reachable from the internet or blocked by a firewall. It connects from our network and reports open, closed or filtered.

01How to use the open port checker

  1. Enter the hostname or IP address.
  2. Enter a port number or pick a common one.
  3. Click Test. Open means the service answered, closed or timeout means a firewall or the service is not running.

02Questions about this tool

Port 25 shows closed on my VPS. Why?
Many networks block outgoing port 25 to stop spam. Use port 587 with authentication for sending mail.
Which ports should be open on a web server?
Usually 80 and 443 only. Keep SSH on 22 limited to your IP if you can.
Can you open a port on my hosting?
On shared hosting ports are fixed. On a VPS you control the firewall and our team can help.
